Untamed futures:
heritage ecologies and politics in the Mediterranean wetlands
2025 - 2026

In 2025–2026, I will hold the South Region/Iméra – Germaine Tillion Chair: The Mediterranean, Tomorrow at the Institute for Advanced Study (IMéRA), Aix-Marseille Université. My project builds on long-term anthropological research in western Sardinia (Italy) and seeks to situate these ethnographic insights within broader debates on the future of the Mediterranean. Framed through a heritage ecology approach, the research examines how the contested conditions of the Anthropocene are reshaping both the production of heritage and the articulation of political claims concerning ecological and social futures.

The project will explore how heritage is mobilised within emerging imaginaries of political and ecological transformation—shaped by contested histories and ongoing environmental crises. It will interrogate the contradictions of “green” transitions, while analysing how heritage becomes a terrain for legitimising, resisting, or reconfiguring competing visions of ecological and political future.
